A RARE FLUTE from the W.S. Haynes Workshop, " plateau" pattern, extruded tone-holes, all solid silver, 1957. serial #26321
Body, head and foot are of .016 inch silver. Tone-holes are extruded, keys are "y-arm" construction to the pad-cups. Sounding length is 601 m, which means the flute plays well at 440 pitch.
Embouchure is original, measures 10.1X 12.3 mm. The flute weighs 433 grams.
Medium weight and "slightly oversize, fifties embouchure" means this lovely lady possesses and wonderful lower and beautiful singing upper register.
We have history of the instrument, back to the original owner, who has possessed it for more than 40 years.
Engraving is sharp on the head and body. Minor dings and dents have been removed by "small six-inch burnisher and very strong fingers".
This particular flute exhibits superb workmanship, arguably quite different to that of modern instruments from the Haynes firm.
