A RARE FLUTE from the W.S. Haynes Workshop, " plateau" pattern, Soldered tone-holes,  Number 10,898 ( 1929 ).

Wm. S. Haynes solid silver flute number 10,898 ( 1929 ).   Plateau keywork to low C, offset G, soldered tone-holes, flat pad cups.

With some features of “Commercial” and also of “Handmade”, Haynes number 10,898 is quite a unique and special instrument.

The previous ( original ? ) owner was, for more than thirty years, a member of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra.  Principal flute in the ensemble for several seasons, the owner eventually moved to assistant principal with the arrival of Robert Cavally student Edward Callan.

The instrument was constructed with .014 silver tube, plateau keys, offset G and C foot.  That makes it half “hand-made” and half “Commercial”.

Sounding length is 600 mm (A = 440), the embouchure measures 10.0 X 12.0, giving the instrument a wonderful tone-color.

Total weight is 403 grams.   All pads and corks are new or close to it.   The 1960’s case is in very good condition.

Our Wichita shop has known this beautiful flute for more than six decades.

Recommended for the adult amateur or a discriminating musician who appreciates the wonderful voice of a “Golden Age” Haynes.
